Game On!

The Super Bowl … the biggest sporting event of the year!  In America it is considered a holiday – it even has it’s own name – Super Bowl Sunday!  If you’re planning a Super Bowl party, here are some ideas to make sure it’s a winner!

Decorations for the occasion can be as simple as purchasing some astro turf at your local Home Depot or Lowes and using white tape for lines and self-ahesive numbers.    You can even use white paint for the lines if you are really ambitious.  This will make a great table cloth or floor mat while watching the game.

Have your guests dress in football  jerseys for their favorite team or just wear the team colors.  Their team didn’t make it into the Super Bowl this year, that’s okay.  They can still pick a side to route for.

A pre-football game outdoors is a sure way to start off the ‘game’ spirit.  Have guests arrive early and divide up into 2 teams.  The winning team will have bragging rights for the rest of the party and start the competitive spirit before the big game begins.

If you’re guests aren’t into a friendly game of football, how about seeing who can pick the MVP?  Put all of the names of the key players into a hat and have each guest draw a name.  At the end of the Super Bowl, whoever’s player is named the Most Valuable Player, wins!   You can even make it a little more competitive by having everyone contribute $1, $5 or $10 and the winner ends up with the pot!

Think outside the box, the score box that is!  Forego the traditional football pool and have everyone write down what they think the final score will be.  Pin it or put a sticker on their shirt with the number.  Or, better yet, attach it to their beverage.  This will make it easy to figure out whose cup is whose!  The person who comes closes to guessing the final score, wins!

We all know watching the Super Bowl isn’t really about football.  It’s all about the food!   Instead of the old traditional chips and dip, why not host a potato bar using either baked potatoes or potato wedges.  The toppings are endless:  shredded cheese,  cooked broccoli, salsa, red onion, non-fat sour cream, ham, bacon, shrimp, and chives all make delicious potato toppings.

Bite size meatball sliders will be a hit!  The meatballs can be cooked ahead in a crock pot and guests can put together their sandwiches as their stomachs begin to growl!

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Footballs? – Who would have thought a football would taste so delicious?  Dip a strawberry in chocolate and then pipe white chocolate to make the football lines.  Healthy and will satisfy that sweet tooth as well!
