2013 is the year of the creative food stations! Whether having a kid’s birthday party, a bar mitzvah, bat mitzvah, a baby shower, or even a wedding, this is where you can do something different! Pick a favorite type of food and then have fun with it! Here are just a few ideas you might want to consider for your next party:
Popcorn - The latest prediction is that popcorn bars will be in for 2013. Popcorn comes in many flavors: Southwest Cheddar Chipotle, Butter Toffee, Walnut Crunch, Chili and Sour Cream, Chocolate Chunk and Caramel, Kettle Corn, and who can forget a must have while watching the latest flick on the big screen … Movie Theatre Butter Flavor! Add some samples that your guests are familiar with but don’t forget to include some new flavors for them to try as well! Who knows, they may have a new all-time favorite inspired by YOU!
S’mores Bar – Who doesn’t love a campout? Do-it-yourself S’more stations will be a big hit this year! Chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers are the standards for making a s’more, but why not add some unique ingredients? Nutella Spread, peanut butter, mini chocolate chips, sliced strawberries, bananas, peanuts and caramel will all make tasty additions to this treat. The toppings are endless and just about any topping you would find at an ice-cream or yogurt shop will work for your s’mores bar! Don’t forget to include the wet wipes with this one!
Crepe Station – This is a new one that will surprise your guests and works perfect for a Sunday brunch or after dinner dessert delight. Crepes are very versatile since you can go sweet or savory. The made-to-order crepe stations can have options of meat and seafood or local cheeses. Or, if wanting to just stick to desserts, how about available toppings such as fresh fruits, strawberry and caramel sauce, ice-cream, or chocolate!
Carnival Foods – Having an outdoor BBQ? Why not step outside the box and have a carnival theme? If it’s a hot summer day or warm evening, snow cones with a rainbow of flavors will be a perfect addition. Cotton candy, candied and caramel apples are all must haves for carnivals. However, for a more up-scale affair, how about an apple/caramel dish, elephant ears, mini corn dogs with a chipotle dipping sauce, funnel cakes, and don’t forget the adult frozen lemonade for a refreshing beverage!
Ice-Cream Sundae Bar – I scream, You scream, We all scream for Ice-Cream! Ice-cream sundaes will add an element of creativity and fun to your event and is very easy to put together as well as affordable. Ice-cream is loved by the young and old and is suitable for a backyard cookout or a more upscale affair. Ice-cream from a local sweet shop can help provide toppings such as chocolate chips, Oreo cookies, coconut, nuts, caramel, hot fudge, whipped cream, and the all-important cherry on top! The array of toppings are endless.
Candy Buffets – And finally, the continuing hot trend of the year is the candy buffet. The candy is a fun thank you to your guests and will also add some color to your party or reception. Use your wedding or party colors and their varying shades to inspire your color choices. It’s best to have no less than 7 and no more than 10 different types of candy, expecting 1/4 to 1/2 lb per guest. Are you passionate about a cause? Use their color scheme for your buffet (pink for breast cancer, red for aids, etc.) You can even use the colored ribbon to seal the guest’s bags and have a special message printed right on the ribbon. For a personal touch, decorate the table with personalized Kit Kat bars from Favorite Announcements sprinkled amongst the display containers or even have some for your guests to add to their take-home goody bags with a personalized label!
Whether your event is big or small, casual or upscale, any of the above creative food stations will be a ‘sweet’ addition to your party. Have fun with it and make it personal!
